Høje-Taastrup Municipality has a total area of 78 km2 and consists of three large towns with train stations and 14 original villages. The municipality lies approximately 20 km west of Copenhagen and has a population of around 50,000.
Høje-Taastrup Municipality is one of the largest municipalities in Greater Copenhagen, with good motorway connections, besides the Intercity, regional and S-train networks, and an extensive bus service.
This is a large commuter municipality, with many commuters travelling to and from Høje-Taastrup on a daily basis. Around 25,000 people commute into Høje-Taastrup during the week, to their jobs in one of the many companies based here.
The municipality has large companies within IT and service, logistics and transport, and regional retail trading. Danske Bank and Nordea are among the companies with large branches here, while PostNord, IKEA, DSV and DISA are also located in the municipality, besides knowledge-intensive companies and institutions such as the Danish Technological Institute and Rockwool. There are also many small and medium-sized craft and production companies.

How to get a CPR number (Central Person Register)
In Denmark each person has a personal registration number, which is called a CPR number. CPR stands for Central Person Register. The CPR number is essential in relation to any contact with the Danish authorities and especially in connection to tax and social security issues.
How to get your CPR number fast and easy at the International House
You need to apply for your CPR number online. You can fill in the application wherever you please and up to one month before the date you move into your Danish home – as long as you have residence permit (if non-EU citizen) and a housing confirmation. EU-citizens also need to have their EU registration certificate on the day they visit the International House to complete their application.

Ordinary closing days of Høje-Taastrup
The Town Hall is closed on all public holidays, as well as 1 May, the Friday after Ascension Day and Danish Constitution Day. At Christmas, the Town Hall is closed on 24 December and on every day between Christmas and New Year.
If you are unemployed, you must register at the local Job Centre. You must do this even if you already receive unemployment benefit from a trade union.

At Høje-Taastrup Municipality we wish to give every child the best start and take a holistic approach to each child and his or her development, from nursery to secondary education. We emphasise that all children must have the opportunity to develop and be encouraged to thrive and learn as much as possible, whatever their circumstances.
Schools and institutions must help to ensure healthy lives for children and young people, such as a healthy and nutritious diet, and by making exercise and outdoor activities part of their everyday lives.
Childcare
Childcare is far more than just taking care of children, since it also involves development, learning and interaction. Your child can learn and be challenged and stimulated by spending time with other children.
In Høje-Taastrup there are several options available for children up to the age of six. There are three different types of childcare institution:
Age-integrated institutions for children aged 0-6. The children are divided into groups of children up to the age of 3 (nursery groups), and groups of children aged over 3 (nursery school groups).
Nurseries for children aged from 0 to 2. The children are divided into small groups.
Nursery schools for children aged from 3 to 5-6. The children are divided into small groups. Children can be offered a nursery school place from the age of 2 years and 10 months.
All childcare institutions are staffed with qualified nursery school teachers and trained assistants who organise activities to support the children's development, while making sure that the children are well-cared for and interact well with other children and adults.
The Municipal Place Allocation Service offers places in one of the childcare institutions with available places at the time required. As a general rule, a place is offered in the area where you live.
You are offered a place according to your application date (place allocation date) and which childcare institution you prefer.
You must register your child in the digital place allocation system (in Danish only). You can get help with registration at Borgerservice.
Schools
In Høje-Taastrup Municipality we set high ambitions for our primary and lower secondary schools and our objective is for all children and young people to develop and be encouraged to thrive and learn as much as possible, whatever their circumstances.
The municipality has ten primary and lower secondary schools, and a 10th grade centre. Primary and lower secondary schools cover grades 0 to 9. The Youth College also offers full-time programmes to prepare for the lower secondary school leaving examination.
Registration for primary and lower secondary school takes place in January, via the digital place allocation system (in Danish only). You can get help for registration at Borgerservice or the local school.
Older pupils can attend Høje-Taastrup Upper Secondary School, as well as numerous vocational education programmes at NEXT, while Roskilde University Centre, west of Hedehusene, is not far away. The municipality also offers numerous educational opportunities within the social and healthcare area, for example.
Childcare after school
All of our primary and lower secondary schools have after-school care centres for children in grades 0 - 3. From the third grade, after-school clubs are offered.
Registration for after-school care takes place at the same time as registration for school, but can also be at other times, in the digital place allocation system (in Danish only).
Parents pay fees for after-school care.
Høje-Taastrup Municipality encourages an active lifestyle. Here, you are close to a host of leisure and cultural activities.
Our active residents are engaged in many different associations, including sports clubs, offering a host of different activities. We have several swimming baths and sports halls with good facilities.
Libraries and cultural institutions also offer a range of different opportunities for children, young people and senior citizens to use their talents. The municipality also has art, music and drama schools for children and young people.

The municipality's many different sports clubs offer a wide range of activities for children and young people, ranging from soccer and archery, to gymnastics and swimming, and many clubs offer trial sessions.

In Høje-Taastrup Municipality there is easy access to more than 30 nature and park areas with a great variety of nature, cultural and recreational facilities.
There are good running paths and hiking trails, including fishing or open-air camping. You can also try out one of Denmark's best cycle path systems, the Marathon Ring, to experience Høje-Taastrup's towns and countryside in a path system with different amenities, such as shelters, nature playgrounds, and picnic tables and benches.
Høje-Taastrup Municipality has several beautiful nature areas: Vestskoven, Porsemosen, Hedeland, Hakkemosen and St. Vejleå with Vallensbæk Mose. They are all open to the public as the perfect setting for a walk or run, or a day outdoors for a family picnic.
